A couple highlights from last night's U2 concert in Dallas. The second encore with "Ultraviolet" feeding into "With or Without You" was truly magical. The acoustic version of "Stuck In a Moment" with just Bono and Edge alone on stage was very impressive. It was one of those times where I thought to myself: "Even without all the lights, stage, and effects, these two men are very talented artists."
The band also played one of my favorite songs from Achtung Baby: "Until the End of the World." And then there was "Sunday Bloody Sunday," which they dedicated to Iraq. "Sunday Bloody Sunday" is a song full of
thumos. It stirs the heart for action.
Bono also personally thanked President George W. Bush "for saving thousands and thousands of lives on the continent of Africa" - a an act of gratitude that was met with only about half the cheers of the stadium. I'm not a die hard fan of George W. Bush, but everyone has to admit that he provided much humanitarian aid to Africa's HIV pandemic (where's his Noble Peace Prize?! An even better question: Where is Bono's Noble Peace Prize?!...Oh, it went to President Obama. Never mind.).
Oh, and the new Cowboys Stadium was phenomenal...decadent, but phenomenal.
